Campus Pulse ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
By using Campus Pulse, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the application.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: When you register, we collect your name, email address, and university affiliation. If you sign up via Google, we receive your Google profile name and email.
- Profile Data: Your university, department, and any optional profile photo you upload.
- Review Content: The reviews, ratings, and comments you submit about teachers and courses.
- Usage Data: App interaction data such as pages visited, features used, and timestamps. This helps us improve the app experience.
- Device Information: Device model, operating system version, and unique device identifiers for crash reporting and analytics.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Campus Pulse app
- Create and manage your user account
- Display reviews and ratings to other users (anonymously by default)
- Send you important notifications about your account or reviews
- Moderate content to ensure community guidelines are followed
- Analyze usage patterns to improve features and user experience
- Respond to your support requests and inquiries
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues or abuse
3. Anonymity & Reviews
Your reviews are anonymous by default. Other users, teachers, and university staff cannot see your name, email, or any identifying information linked to your reviews unless you explicitly choose to make your identity visible.
Our moderation team may access reviewer identity only when investigating reports of abuse or policy violations, and this information is never disclosed publicly.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely on Appwrite cloud infrastructure with industry-standard encryption. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (TLS/SSL)
- Secure authentication with hashed passwords
- Access controls limiting data access to authorized systems only
- Regular security assessments and updates
While we strive to protect your data, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share data only in the following circumstances:
- Service Providers: We use Appwrite for backend services and Google for authentication. These providers have their own privacy policies.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government regulation.
- Safety: To protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or the public.
- Aggregated Data: We may share anonymized, aggregated statistics that cannot identify any individual user.
6. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access: You can view your personal data through your profile and settings.
- Correction: You can update your profile information at any time.
- Deletion: You can delete individual reviews. To delete your entire account and associated data, contact our support team.
- Portability: You can request a copy of your data by contacting us.
- Withdraw Consent: You can stop using the app at any time. Deleting the app removes local data, but server data persists until you request account deletion.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain information for legal or legitimate business purposes.
Anonymous review content may be retained even after account deletion, as it is not linked to any identifiable user.
8. Children's Privacy
Campus Pulse is intended for university students aged 16 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If we discover that we have collected data from a child under 16, we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and notify users through the app. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
